9/29/00 - Post Olympic Notes

Head Coach Svetlana Kuznetsova is looking forward to fielding a full team for the World Championships in Belgium next year. She hopes to feature a mixture of old and new, including the usual suspects: Oksana, Almira, Botacoz, Alexandra, plus Renata Khabibrakhmanova, Renata Nasibulina, and maybe some of the younger girls.

As accommodations for athletes are generously sponsored by SOCOG, this is one of the rare competitions where the Uzbeks are able stay and take in the sights of the host city and attend the Closing Ceremony. The UZB delegation is scheduled to depart on October 3rd.

Members of the Fan Club drove Oksana and Svetlana to the nearby Blue Mountains where they admired the beauty of the Australian landscape and had a breather from the hot Sydney weather in the cooler climes of the Mountains.

The Fan Club also accompanied the Uzbeks on a whirlwind sightseeing tour of Sydney. Obligatory stops were made at the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. A ferry ride afforded wonderful photo opportunities of the gorgeous harbour. Thai dinner in Darling Harbour provided a nice change from Olympic Village food.

The Sydney Morning Herald has posted a short article on Oksana Chusovitina.

9/11/00 - Team UZB/Sydney updates

Svetlana Kuznetsova and Oksana Chusovitina have been put up in a 'portacabin' or 'modular home'. These are temporary housing put up in the gardens of the permanent houses where other athletes are staying.

Oksana is very encouraged by the fan mail support. She hopes to reply to the fan mail soon.

Team UZB will compete in Mixed Group 5 in the last subdivision. They are training with the RUS, ROM and CHN teams, and in the words of Svetlana Kuznetsova, are 'in good company.'

Svetlana and Oksana hope to have homepages posted on the IBM fanmail site at http://www.fanmail.olympic.ibm.com/homepage/index.html.

9/7/00 - Team UZB receives fan mail.

The Team UZB Fan Club has forwarded all email and guestbook entries to Team UZB prior to their departure to Sydney. They were unable to reply due to their schedule, but were thankful to everyone for their wishes of goodwill. Stay tuned for more updates on Team UZB's visit to the Olympic Games.

8/20/00 - Team UZB prepares for the Games.

Team UZB has secured their visas and wil depart for Sydney on September 6th. The Team UZB Fan Page will be faxing Team UZB prior to their departure. If you want to send any well wishes, please email teamuzb@yahoo.com and we will forward your messages to them via fax.

8/14/00 - Oksana Chusovitina to compete in Sydney.

The Team UZB Fan Page has been informed that Oksana Chusovitina will compete at the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Woo hoo!!
